Portadores de Gloria

Hello you all! Just want to share a video of something I've been working on. This Saturday our theatre group from church will be for the first time evangelizing on the streets. We are very excited and thankful for this great opportunity God has prepared for us. We've been working hard these past weeks, a lot of rehearsals, prayers, fasting.... and with the help of the Holy Spirit we're ready to impact lives for his Glory. We believe this is just the beginning of great things that will be coming on our way!

So, ladies and gentlemen, I give you "Portadores de Gloria"

Church Retreat - Mojacar 2011

Last weekend we had a church retreat in Mojacar, a beatiful village with wonderful views. It was an amazing time where together with other churches we praised the Lord, enjoyed our brothers and sisters in Christ, had a lot of fun, and ate like crazy - free buffet for all meals, can you believe it!!!!!

While I was there, the pastor asked me to take some photos and though I didn't have my professional camera with me, my faithful rebel 450D camera took care of the job (Note to myself, next time, take all my gear).

We had a wonderful worship team.

We had great speakers!

Our Talented Theatre Group.

Great Actors

And the kids also performed a beautiful dance.

Nicholas had so much fun playing with his friends.

 My good friends.

Almost everybody from the group.

 Me and Gina, going home.

FAQ

Lately I've been asked the same questions over and over again... so I thought, why not blog about it?! So here they are:

1. What is like now to be a mom?
No joke, everyone that I've talked to after I had my baby asked the same question and my answer is always the same: IT'S GREAT, THE BEST THING EVER!!!! It's a deep love that I've never experienced before.  My mother's instinct kicked in as soon as he was born. Even my mom told me she is so impressed in how I've been handling things! It's a such deep and powerful love that I feel like I've been a mom for so many years. Of course I'm not saying I know everything about motherhood, cause I really don't, but I can affirm that now I know what is a true mom's love for her baby! It's just a GREAT feeling ever!

2. How was your labor?
Ha, I always smile when someone ask me that! Well my labor was very interesting, very different from what I've heard and read! First I thought he was going to be born in my 37/38 weeks cause of all my fake contractions and how low he was, but boy was I wrong! He was 2 days overdue. My earlier labor started with very painful contractions (nothing like what the class, books, and friends told me: "oh, the first ones are not that bad, you can even maintain a conversation") I went to the hospital with 4 minutes contractions and after they assessed me, they sent me home cause I wasn't dilated! I got home and went to the tub to alleviate the pain and it helped a lot; however, my contractions were getting so strong, long and close a part  (2 minutes) that was impossible to bear, plus I was feeling a lot pressure down there. We headed to the hospital and I was sure that I had dilated by now. Well, I had... only 1/2 centimeter... I couldn't believe it! I told my dear hubby that had tears in his eyes while watching my agony, "Do not let them send me home!" He advocated for me, telling the nurse that I had a high tolerance for pain so if I was crying that's because I was in a real pain! She explained the reason I was having such strong contractions in the early stage was because I was having the back labor, the baby was facing up and already very low. Well, to cut a long story short, they finally admitted me and gave me the sweet epidural and put me on Pitocin to increase even more my contractions to dilate. After 16 hours of labor, i had my beautiful baby boy!  Now, I wasn't planing in getting the epidural so soon. I wanted to go as far as could without it, but after 8 hours with strong contractions and no dilation, I said I felt enough, now give me the drug! And it was the best decision!

3. What colors are baby's eyes?
It's gray! Well, I don't know yet! Some times it's green. But I think if it was suppose to be blue it'd be brighter by now.

4. Are you still working as a photographer?
Heck yes! And I want expand my business and start taking wedding photos, so spread the word, folks! If there are any bride and groom looking for an artistic soul to capture their big day, drop me a line!

5. What about theatre?
Oh, my affair with theatre will always endure no matter what. Right now I'm taking time from the stage as an actor but I'll be doing some playwriting/directing for some projects.

6. When are you going back to Brazil?
My heart aches when I think about Brazil. How I miss my people! The last time that I've been down there was Christmas 2008. Now since the baby is too young we decided not to travel for a while. But hopefully next year. I miss my f/f like crazy! I love reading your comments on Orkut (sorta like facebook network) and thanks for the emails! i love you all!

7. So, are you American now?
The rumors are true I became a "gringa" ... well at least on paper, cause my look and my accent can't pass as an American! It was a personal decision that I made that was best for me and my family! I'm proud to be half Brazilian and half Japanese and now an American too. As I said I miss Brazil like crazy but since God brought me here I better serve the community around me and getting an American citizenship give me the freedom to do so! "We the people"

Okay, I typed too much.

Happy Weds, folks!

Feeding my artistic soul

Lately I've been thinking once an artist always an artist (Is it how they say it?). Well, what I mean is, when you're an artist, you need always something to keep feeding your creative soul, otherwise you'll die! Dramatic, I know, but you get the point!

As many of you know, this year I finally got my Bachelor's degree in Theatre Arts. After so many years, and when I say many years I'm not exaggerating, I finally graduated. It's been a long journey since I started my university life. It started way back home, in Brazil, when I spent many hours without sleeping for an annual test to get in the best universities in the country. It's a process that is a pain in the butt called "vestibular". However, after I got in, (Man, it felt so good when I saw my name on the "Fuvest" list! Thank you Jesus!), I wasn't satisfied with my life and decided to take a break - I went to live in Japan to work and get in touch with my Japanese side (for those that don't know, I'm half Japanese). I always hear about age crisis, I guess I had one at 20 years old, hehehe... Well, that delayed my journey towards my degree. Once back, I was refreshed, more experience, and ready to finish what I started; however, things don't necessary go as we plan! Once again, I had to delay it for an awesome cause: I met my hubby!

I moved to California without finishing school, but always knew I'd some day go back to it! Well, after adapting to a new life, culture, and language, I started School again! I had to started from the beginning, which took even more time to finish it!

Although I was crazy busy all the time, I was doing something that I loved.  Theatre is something that feeds me, and I noticed when I'm not involved with it, I feel so lost! However, I had to take a break from it. After graduating, I had a choice to go for my Masters in Acting (got accepted and all...), but I needed to take a time out to dedicate time for my family! I think, as a woman, sometimes you have to give up certain things to have all! I wanted to start having kids before 30s and I knew if I went to my masters, it 'd be more 3 years full time without social life. It was a hard decision that I had to make. My acting couches kind got upset with me, but after praying and reflecting about it, I decided not to go.  And after few months I got pregnant!

It's interesting to see my time after I got out of school! I was occupied enjoying time with my mom who was spending some time here in US, enjoying my new home,  getting ready to get pregnant (which for my surprise it only took two months to get knocked up), and more and more getting involved with photography (which is my passion too, but a subject for another post!). As I was busy with all those things, I noticed that something was missing! God, I was lost and didn't know why! "I have an amazing life, so why am I still not satisfied?" That's when it hit me! Big and Bold, "I MISS THE STAGE!" I missed saying, "Sorry, I can't, I have rehearsal!" A famous line among actors!

So, there is no way I can live without theatre! That is why I got involved in another production. And although it's a small one with low budget, it is still a group coming together to create life on stage! And that makes me so satisfied!!! Plus, I'm directing a kids skit at my church. It's a small thing, but still it's something that keeps feeding my creative side!

It reminds me one of my favorite quote from a great Brazilian Artist: "While some people make theater," says Boal, "we all are theater." Therefore, I don't make Theatre, I'm Theatre! That's how God designed me to be, and that's how he wants me to serve this world! So, as long as I'm involved with it, professional or not, in big or small productions, my soul will be fulfilled!
